It is still Spring in Colorado. And New Generation Roofing wants to remind you exactly what that means—hail season is here. Are you ready? Is your roof ready? Read on to find helpful tips and hints for preparing yourself for one of the most damaging seasons your roof can weather.

In last week’s blog we discussed all the ways that these hail storms, which begin in May in Colorado, but which can continue throughout the whole summer, can damage your home. New Generation Roofing discussed all the issues that may incur from all the hailstorms coming our way in May.

Damage to your roof and gutters are, of course, the biggest concern. However, beyond that, that damage, if severe enough and if not addressed, can cause leakage into your home causing even more damage inside your home.

In this blog we will show you some of the things you can do for your home and your roof to prepare for this hail storms. First off, it all starts with properly maintaining and preparing your roof for the inevitable here in Colorado.

First off, you need to be sure to inspect your roof often. You are looking for a few things when you go through this process. You are looking for any kind of damage as well as any signs of wear and tear. Because you know, those hail stones will somehow and uncannily find those weaker points in your roof to target.

When you are doing this inspection, you want to look for any loose or missing shingles. Next, make sure the integrity of the tiles are still in tact. Are they cracked or chipped? All of these issues can put your roof at even greater risk as a hail storm approaches.

Next you want to move onto the area surrounding your home and roof. Think about your trees. How close are they to your home and roof? Are they intruding on your roof? If have trees that are impeding on your roof, or will soon be, it is time to trim them back.

These tree limbs could break and fall onto your roof during a hail storm. Taking care of these trees near your roof ahead of a storm will help you to avoid this possible cause of damage. Preparation ahead of hail storms can go a long way toward saving your roof from damage.

Beyond preparing for a storm in the above mentioned ways, you could also consider investing in impact resistant roofing materials. These are specially designed to withstand the impact of most hail storms. They are highly recommended in states, such as Colorado, where hail storms are prevalent.

Additionally, you can also consider installing hail guards. You could also consider getting screens for your gutters downspouts. This will keep all sorts of debris out of them and therefore keep them clean of clogs. This will also help them to last longer.

Of course, it is always a great idea to have professionals like, New Generation Roofing,  inspect your roof. If they find anything wrong, they can also repair it. For all your roofing needs, New Generation Roofing is here to help.
