We are now discussing ways to help you to protect and maintain your roof during the winter months in Colorado.
In the past couple of blog we discussed the number one thing you can do to help protect your roof during the winter season in Colorado— remove the heavy, wet snow that can be dangerous to your roof and home. New Generation can help you do this.
We then went onto the next tip New Generation Roofing recommends to help protect our home and roof during the brutal winters in the beautiful state of Colorado. You must be sure to keep ice from forming on your roof.
In this blog
New Generation Roofing will discuss some more tips and tricks for maintaining your roof during what can be rough winters with lots of snow in Colorado. After all, you want your new roof to last as long as possible and maintenance is a big part of helping it last longer.
Maintain your flashing
What is flashing?
But wait, what exactly is flashing? Flashing is a flat thin piece of metal on your roof. It is used to help waterproof the perimeter of your roof. It works by directing any water away from the seams and joints of your roof. This prevents any water from entering any openings and cracks in your roof.
Alright, so right away we can see why this flashing is so important, especially in the winter. Of course, we want our roof to be as waterproof as possible and flashing is an important step in doing this.
How do you maintain it?
So, we are just going to assume that your roof was already installed with flashing, because, come on, it should be. So then we need to think about how to maintain this flashing. Depending on how old your roof and flashing are, you may need to repair or replace that flashing.
If it has been a few years, it will be time to check on this. Flashing can become loose or warped. This can lead to many problems, especially during the winter when it is especially important. When flashing is not working properly it might allow all that snow and ice we get in the winter in Colorado to seep into your roof.
You can have New Generation Roofing come to inspect your flashing and make sure that it is not warped or loose. While they are at it they can also inspect your shingles and make sure all are in place and not are missing.
Should they find issues with either the shingles or the flashing, you can then enlist them to repair or replace them. They might be able to do this on the spot, or on a separate visit. Either way, your roof will be covered (pun intended) and no snow or ice will get into your home.
