Denver Gutter Replacement & Gutter Rx Installation in Montclair: Solving Hidden Water Damage Before It Became a Bigger Problem

Project Spotlight | Montclair Neighborhood | Denver, Colorado

What Started as a Gutter Problem Turned Into a Complete Water Management Issue

Earlier this spring, a homeowner in Denver's Montclair neighborhood contacted New Gen Roofing & Exteriors after a few wet snowstorms and rainstorms revealed problems with the home's gutter system.

The homeowner's primary concern was damage to the back patio and deck. Water was overflowing from the gutters and repeatedly draining onto the wood, causing premature deterioration and raising concerns about long-term damage.

However, once our team completed a thorough inspection, it became clear that the problem extended far beyond clogged gutters.

What initially appeared to be a routine gutter repair quickly became a complete gutter replacement and water management project.

Our Inspection Revealed Multiple Issues

One of the most important parts of any inspection is identifying the root cause of the problem instead of simply treating the symptoms.

During our inspection, we discovered several issues contributing to the failing gutter system.

Water Was Draining Directly Above the Electrical Panel

One of the most concerning findings was that water was draining directly above the home's electrical panel.

Any time water is repeatedly directed toward critical areas of a home, it's important to address the issue quickly to help prevent additional damage and potential safety concerns.

The Existing Gutters Were Too Short

We also discovered that portions of the original gutter system didn't fully capture the water coming off the roof.

Several sections were simply too short to effectively collect and redirect water along the roof's edge.

This allowed water to bypass the gutter system entirely and spill directly onto surrounding exterior surfaces.

A Previous Roof Replacement Contributed to the Problem

During our inspection, it appeared that a previous roof replacement had been completed without properly detaching and resetting the existing gutters.

This is an important step during many roofing projects because gutters should be carefully removed and reinstalled when necessary to avoid damage and ensure proper alignment.

In this case, portions of the gutter system had been damaged during the previous roof replacement, creating restrictions that prevented water from flowing properly.

The Drip Edge Was Allowing Water to Travel Behind the Gutters

Another issue involved the drip edge.

We discovered that the drip edge metal had been notched around the gutter hangers, creating entry points that allowed water to seep behind the gutters instead of flowing into them.

When water begins traveling behind a gutter system, it can eventually contribute to:

  • Wood rot

  • Deck deterioration

  • Fascia damage

  • Exterior water intrusion

  • Premature deterioration of surrounding materials

Mature Trees Were Contributing to Clogged Gutters

Because the property was surrounded by mature trees, leaves and debris had accumulated inside the gutters and restricted water flow.

Clogged gutters, combined with damaged sections, improper installation, and openings in the drip edge, created a drainage system that was no longer functioning as intended.

Instead of directing water safely away from the home, the system was overflowing, backing up, and allowing water to reach areas where it didn't belong.

Our Solution: A Complete Gutter Replacement With Gutter Rx Protection

After identifying all of the contributing factors, we recommended a complete gutter replacement.

Our team removed the failing gutter system and installed new seamless gutters designed to improve water flow and provide long-term performance.

We also installed new fasteners that extended through the drip edge to ensure the new gutter system was properly secured and functioning as intended.

Finally, we installed a Gutter Rx gutter protection system to help prevent future clogs and reduce ongoing maintenance.

Because of the number of trees surrounding the property, gutter protection was an important part of creating a long-term solution.

Why Gutter Protection Is Important for Homes in Denver's Montclair Neighborhood

Montclair is one of Denver's most established neighborhoods, with many properties featuring mature landscaping and large trees.

While these trees add beauty and character, they can also create ongoing maintenance challenges for homeowners.

Leaves, seeds, and other debris can quickly accumulate inside gutters and prevent water from flowing properly.

Combined with Colorado's heavy spring snow, rainstorms, and seasonal weather changes, clogged or improperly installed gutters can quickly lead to water intrusion and exterior damage.

Regular gutter inspections and properly designed gutter protection systems can help homeowners avoid many of these common issues.

More Than a Gutter Replacement

This project is a great example of why a professional inspection matters.

The homeowner originally contacted us because of visible damage to the deck.

What we discovered was a combination of clogged gutters, previous installation issues, damaged components, improper drainage, and water intrusion behind the gutter system.

At New Gen Roofing & Exteriors, our goal isn't simply to replace products.

Our goal is to identify the source of the problem, educate homeowners, and provide long-term solutions that protect their homes and investments.

If you're noticing overflowing gutters, water stains, wood deterioration, or drainage issues around your Denver home, our team would be happy to take a closer look.
